Sarah's Story...
Sarah's crisis occurred when her rent increased and she could no longer afford it along with her other bills. As Sarah says, "I felt alone and was very embarassed and angry at myself because I thought I could do better."
Previously, she and her daughter participated in Family Promise of Charlotte and lived in a different church each week. Sarah worked at Bojangles but shortly after entering W.I.S.H., she obtained employment as a CNA at a retirement community. She now plans to enter nursing school in the winter of 2010.
By saving a portion of the funds needed to purchase a used car, Sarah earned assistance through W.I.S.H.'s step/reward incentives with Goodwill Industries to cover the remainder of the car cost. Starting at 4:30 a.m., she and her daughter spent four hours a day on the bus getting to and from work, school and day care. Those days are a thing of the past. Sarah shares, "W.I.S.H. helped me get where I am right now." Sarah hopes to provide a better life for her daughter and is optimistic about their future together.
